The purpose of catechesis is to deepen the first proclamation of the Gospel: to lead the person being catechized to know, welcome, celebrate and experience the mystery of God, manifested in Jesus Christ, who reveals the Father to us and sends us the Holy Spirit. It leads to surrender of the heart to God, to communion with the Church, the body of Christ, and to participation in its mission (Cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church 426-429).
The Christian family is called to be the great educator of faith for life in this world and for eternal life. It itself has the mission of being a living gospel, good news that gives rise to hope. Parents transmit faith to their children, in the simplicity and concreteness of everyday life. Together, family members witness to the salvation of Christ in their relationships with other people and in the ecclesial community itself, in particular through the catechesis of young people and adults. Parents accompany their children on the path of Christian initiation, awakening in themselves the grace of the sacraments.
The Church's challenge is the evangelization of today's world, even in territories where the Church has been established for the longest time. Our reality calls for a new evangelization. Catechesis is placed within this evangelizing perspective, showing a great passion for proclaiming the Gospel.
The fruit of evangelization and catechesis is making disciples of Jesus Christ: welcoming the Word, accepting God in one's life, as a gift of faith. Produce conversion and follow-up.
